Being closed on Sundays and Mondays is a characteristic of old-school shops, I suppose that the guidebooks should mention it.

People don&#039;t eat croissants with jam or jelly in France. (Truth is, some actually do it, but it is considered decadent). The rationale is that it would hide the taste of the croissant.
So they don&#039;t sell jam with croissant (only with bread). A shop owner might accommodate your request, but a mere employee doesn&#039;t know what to do with such an unexpected demand.</description>
